Orange

The best known citrus fruit is the orange, which comes in 400 varieties. These are roughly classified into two groups: eating oranges and juicing oranges. The Netherlands has an unsuitable climate, so we import them.

Although orange trees are grown in tropical and subtropical regions, citrus trees are not considered tropical plants. The earth has a so-called citrus belt. Citrus fruits are cultivated between 40° north latitude and 40° south latitude.

Lemon

The lemon is a yellow citrus fruit and is related to the orange. A ripe lemon always has a yellow colour and may have a thick or a thin peel. This peel may be rough or smooth.

Grapefruit

The grapefruit is a crossbreed between a pomelo and an orange and is one of the largest citrus fruits available. Grapefruits vary greatly in flavour, colour and flesh type.
