Blueberry
Blueberries are native to North America. Native Americans highly appreciated the berries, which they used for medicinal purposes. The first blueberries were brought to the Netherlands around the mid-20th century. The berries are very popular in the Netherlands, where they are used for many different purposes.
Blueberry cultivation
Blueberry shrubs can grow to a height of up to 1.5 m. When the stems are over 3 years old, blue-black berries will form shortly after the pink, spherical flowers have finished flowering. Each berry may contain up to 40 seeds. Blueberry juice has a purple colour.
