White currants

White currants have a yellowish-white colour and a refreshingly tart taste. The white currant is related to the redcurrant.

White currant cultivation

In the Netherlands, white berries are harvested in July. To guarantee perfect quality, the grower lovingly tends to the white currant bushes.  For example, the shrubs need to be pruned to make sure they are kept light and airy. In addition, growers use special fertiliser to produce deliciously flavoured berries. Because the berries are white, they do not attract so many birds, so bird damage is minimal.
